“Cluster of Students” Auditions

HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE AUDITION…
(for the HSM audition prep scroll down)
ALL Orchestra Students for HSM and WILDSIDE just come out and audition.  You will need to know your scales, have a memorized piece you you play 30 seconds, and don’t worry we will work with you on that day.
WILDSIDE May 7th or 8th Refinery Theater (Saddlebak Church) 4pm-6pm
(Jr. High Ministry – Those going into 7th or 8th grade next year)
**NOTE: ALL THOSE AUDITIONING FOR WILDSIDE— these audition instructions will seem a little overwhelming. Don’t be scared but come out and audition no matter what because we want to see where you are at and help you know where to improve.
VOCALISTS: Have a song prepared that you will sing for about 30seconds to a minute. It can be your favorite worship song or any kind of song you hear on the radio, iTunes, or wherever. Either bring sheet music with chords for us to play, or bring a track that only has instrumental music on it with no vocals that you can sing along with. Also on that day we are going to teach you a song to see how fast you can learn it.
PIANO/KEYBOARDIST: Have a song prepared that you will play for about 30seconds to a minute. It can be any kind of song. We will be listening for your timing and your ability to play. Be prepared to play your major chords and scales with both hands.
ACOUSTIC GUITAR PLAYERS: Have a song prepared that you will play for about 30seconds to a minute. It can be any kind of song. We will be looking at your ability to strum and play major chords. Please be able to read guitar chord charts or music. Unfortunately we don’t use guitar tabs.
Learn how to play this song for the audition: “Learn to Love” by the Cluster of Students. We will ask you to play the first verse and the chorus. You don’t have to play exactly like the recorded version on iTunes, but play it as close as possible.
ELECTRIC GUITAR PLAYERS: Have a song prepared that you will play for about 30seconds to a minute. We will be looking at your ability to strum, play major chords, solo, and play lead.  Don’t worry… it doesn’t have to be perfect or crazy awesome, but know that playing electric guitar is different playing acoustic guitar. Acoustic keeps a strumming rhythm for the most part, but electric does a lot more with lead playing. Also be able to read chord charts or music. Unfortunately we don’t use guitar tabs. Guitar tabs are only for guitarists and because of that, it doesn’t help the other instrumentalists during rehearsals.
Learn this song for the audition: “Lift Him Up” by the Cluster of Students. We will ask you to play the intro, verse 1, and the chorus.
BASS PLAYERS: Have a song prepared that you will play for about 30seconds to a minute. Know how to play quarter notes and eighth notes on time.
Learn this song for the audition: “Lift Him Up” by the Cluster of Students. We will ask you to play the intro, verse 1, and the chorus.
DRUMMERS: Have a drum solo or grove prepared that you will play for about 30seconds to a minute. Be able to play a 4/4 beat and a 6/8 beat.  Make sure your fills are good fills.
Learn this song for the audition: “Divine and Holy” by the Cluster of Students. You will need to know how to play the whole song.
HSM MAY 14th or 15th Refinery Theater (Saddleback Church) 4pm-6pm 
(High School Ministry – Those going into 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade next year)
**NOTE: ALL THOSE AUDTIONING FOR HSM— these audition instructions will seem a little overwhelming. Don’t be scared but come out and audition no matter what because we want to see where you are at and help you know where to improve. This up coming year we will only be having three teams.
VOCALISTS: Have a song prepared that you will sing for about 30seconds to a minute. It can be your favorite worship song or any kind of song you hear on the radio, iTunes, or wherever. Either bring sheet music with chords for us to play or bring a track that only has instrumental music on it with no vocals that you can sing along with. Also on that day we are going to teach you a song to see how fast you can learn it. Be prepared to learn how to sing harmonies.

Play exactly like the recorded version on iTunes or as close as possible. Also we will put a chord chart in front of you to play on the spot.. Just know your chords and you’ll be fine.

Playing electric guitar  is different than playing acoustic guitar. Acoustic keeps a strumming rhythm for the most part, but electric does a lot more with lead playing. Also be able to read chord charts or music. Unfortunately we don’t use guitar tabs. Guitar tabs are only for guitarists and because of that, it doesn’t help the other instrumentalists during rehearsals. More importantly, know how to play octaves.
Learn this song for the audition: “Lift Him Up” by the Cluster of Students. We will ask you to play the intro, verse 1, and the chorus. Please bring your own gear because we will also be listening for what kind of guitar tone you play.
BASS PLAYERS: Have a song prepared that you will play for about 30 seconds to a minute. Know how to play quarter notes and eighth notes on time.
Learn this song for the audition: “Lift Him Up” by the Cluster of Students. We will ask you to play the intro, verse 1, and the chorus.

Drummers need to learn to two songs. Learn the song: “Divine and Holy” by the Cluster of Students. Learn this song exactly like the recording and you will be playing to a click. Also, learn the song: by Israel Houghton “You Hold my World” as close as possible to the recording.
